District 4 is home to Tacoma's largest immigrant and refugee population. As someone with firsthand experience advocating for immigrant rights, I understand the fear and uncertainty our immigrant neighbors face, especially given concerning rhetoric from the incoming federal administration. Our district's diversity is our strength, and I will fight to:
Advocate for strengthening legal protections and resources for immigrant families, including partnering with trusted legal aid organizations to provide know-your-rights workshops and immigration consultations.
Ensure city services and programs remain accessible to all residents regardless of immigration status, including maintaining Tacoma's commitment as a welcoming city.
Create and support a rapid response network to protect families during immigration enforcement activities and connect them with essential support services.
Support immigrant-owned businesses and entrepreneurs through targeted economic development programs and multilingual business services.
Partner with immigrant community leaders and organizations to shape policies that reflect the real needs and experiences of our diverse immigrant population.
Safety in District 4 must go beyond policing—it requires a comprehensive, community-centered approach. Every family deserves to feel secure in their home and neighborhood. To that end, I will:
Strengthen our fire and emergency services by ensuring they have the resources and staff to respond effectively in every part of the district.
Expand community safety programs that invest in mental health resources, youth violence prevention, and alternatives to incarceration.
Foster trust and accountability between residents and law enforcement through clear communication, fair practices, and collaborative solutions.
Advocate for the creation of well-lit, walkable streets and safe public spaces to support vibrant neighborhoods.
In District 4, too many of us are at risk of losing our homes due to skyrocketing rents and a lack of affordable housing. I will fight to:
Expand affordable housing options tailored to our community’s unique needs.
Implement anti-displacement policies that protect residents from gentrification and predatory landlords.
Champion initiatives to address homelessness with compassion and dignity, ensuring access to transitional housing and supportive services.
District 4 is home to hardworking people, yet many still struggle with poverty. I will advocate for:
• Job creation focused on livable wages, local hiring, and apprenticeships.
• Programs that connect residents to skills training, higher education, and career pathways.
• Investments in small, minority-owned businesses, reflecting the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit of our community.
Environmental justice isn't just a buzzword - it's about survival for our most vulnerable neighbors. Communities of color and working families in District 4 have shouldered the burden of pollution and climate impacts for too long, while lacking equal access to environmental benefits. I will ensure:
District 4 has equitable access to clean air, water, and green spaces. Every family deserves to breathe clean air, drink safe water, and have parks and natural areas within walking distance of their home. I'll fight to clean up legacy pollution and create new green spaces in underserved areas.
Tacoma's climate action initiatives prioritize the needs of our neighborhoods. Environmental policies must be shaped by the communities most impacted. I'll ensure District 4 residents have a strong voice in climate planning, focusing on immediate quality-of-life improvements like better transit access, urban forests for cooling, and protection from flooding.
Sustainable infrastructure investments that benefit future generations while creating green jobs for today. We can tackle climate change while building economic opportunity. I'll champion investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate resilience that create good-paying jobs for local workers and prepare our infrastructure for the challenges ahead.
We don't need heroes, we need each other - District 4 deserves a council representative who listens to and stands alongside them. Together, we can create a brighter, safer, and more equitable future for our community.
